This cross, decorated with images and complicated ornaments tells us a story about the Easter – Pascha – one of the oldest and most important Christian festivals. It commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On the front side of the cross, you can see Christ’s victory over death, the Resurrection of our Lord. Having suffered torment on the Cross, the Lord atoned for the sins of people, and, having risen from the dead, destroyed the power of death. Therefore, next to the titles of His holy name “IS XC”, the word “NIKA” is often written on the Cross, which means “winner” in Greek. Jesus Christ is in full glory, angels are kneeling at His feet and enjoying His eternal victory. There is a short prayer that can sound like this: “Christ is risen from the dead, death is corrected by death, and by giving life to those who are in tombs.” This picture was used in many icons of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. On the backside of the cross, you can see another prayer in old Slavonic language and the image of Jesus when he appears to his apostles.
