Symbolism and application of the item

On the obverse of this small pendant, there is an icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, on the ...back, there is the miracle of the salvation of three merchants who were robbed by shipbuilders and thrown into the sea. Around there are words of prayer. They are simple and at the same time full of deep symbolic meaning: "A fair servitor of Christ, exude precious blessings of myrrh and an inexhaustible sea of miracles to the whole world." These words also reflect a real miracle that has been taking place for several centuries at his resting place in the city of Bari in Italy: the relics of St. Nicholas stream myrrh, that is, miraculously pour out fragrant oil that heals from diseases. He is the most revered saint in Russia. The sick, the slandered, the deceived, who want happiness for their children, the ordering of life for their loved ones, pray to him in any need, in search of a worthy spouse. They say, that Nicholas helped pious merchants. Saint Nicholas was born in the second half of the 3rd century in Asia Minor in the Lycian city of Patara. Having matured, he became a presbyter in his hometown, and then a bishop of all of Lycia. During the years of his pastoral ministry, the saint became famous for many miracles and deeds of mercy. "The Miracle of Three Shipbuilders," tells how merchants dying at sea turned to St. Nicholas and were miraculously saved by him. At first, they were, like the prophet Jonah, swallowed by a fish, then "spit out" by it on a stone that rose from the depths of the sea, and then on a stone, like on a ship, they were delivered to the city. The ruler of the city, having learned about the villainy of the robbers-shipbuilders, punished them and returned the goods to the merchants. This story was extremely popular in Novgorod, Pskov, among the Novgorod-Pskov settlers, shipbuilders, and merchants, who greatly revered the saint as an assistant in fair trade and a protector of sailors. This pendant could be a nice little present to any entrepreneur, traveler, or sailor. St. Nicholas answers prayers immediately and is called a "quick helper". The memory of St. Nicholas is celebrated on December 19 (6) and May 22 (9) on the day of the transfer of the relics. This pendant is made by the artist Irina Nikitina and the team of the company "Akimov".
