This small pectoral cross with the icon of the Saviour, whose image is not made by hand, is made according to the oldest traditions of the Orthodox Church. The origin of its form goes back to Byzantium, to the first ages of Christianity. The equal-ended cross symbolizes the harmony of the soul and its unity with God.
The central image of the cross is one of the main holy things of the Christian world – the icon of the Savior Not Made by Hands. The Holy Tradition of the Church preserved the story of how the king of Edessa, who was sick with leprosy, having learned about the miracles of Jesus Christ, sent his servant to Him. He begged the Lord to come to him and heal him from a terrible disease. Jesus Christ washed his face and wiped it off with a cloth (napkin), after which His image was miraculously imprinted on the fabric. The Lord, endowed with divine power, sent the Lord's Image Not Made by Hands to the sick king. Centuries later, the Holy Napkin ended up in Constantinople, where it was kept until the 13th century and disappeared after the sack of the city by the crusaders. Who knows maybe sometime it will be found…..
Copies of the miraculous image are known in Russia since the 12th century. The icons of the Savior Not Made by Hands were revered for a special protective, saving, and life-giving force.
