Symbolism and application of the item
On the front side of this cross pendant, you can see the Crucifixion of ...our Lord Jesus Christ. The eight-pointed cross stands on a little stone platform, which symbolizes Mount Golgotha, on which our Lord was crucified. According to the legend, the first man, Adam, was buried here. Above Christ's head, there are letters: "ИНЦИ". They mean: " Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews" ( In Latin it is "INRI"). In this way, the Jews wanted to mock Jesus, calling Him a king. The image of our Lord on the cross is always very meaningful. Having suffered torment on the Cross, the Lord atoned for the sins of people, and, having risen from the dead, destroyed the power of death. Therefore, next to the titles of His holy name "IS XC", the word "NIKA" is often written on the Cross, which means "winner" in Greek.
On the backside of the cross pendant, you can see the Cover of the Theotokos. This is a very original image, dedicated to a unique festival of the Mother of God. First of all, I should mention, that this festival has several names. The Protection of the Theotokos or the Intercession of the Theotokos (Church Slavonic: Покровъ, Pokrov, Ukrainian: Покрова, Pokrova). This festival is a symbol of faith and protection for everyone, asking for it. It is considered, that the Mother of God helps those, who are in trouble and depressed to regain belief in themselves and in God. The veil, which the Holy Mother of God took from Her head and covered everyone, asking for help, has in itself power and protection from all disasters. This festival is celebrated every year on the 14th of October. So this image is a great gift to those, whom you wish to be protected.
