Symbolism and application ...of the item

This is a very original image, dedicated to a unique festival of the Mother of God. First of all, I should mention, that this festival has several names. The Protection of the Theotokos or the Intercession of the Theotokos (Church Slavonic: Покровъ, Pokrov, Ukrainian: Покрова, Pokrova). This festival is a symbol of faith and protection of everyone, asking for it. It is considered, that the Mother of God helps those, who are in trouble and depressed to regain belief in themselves and in God. The veil, which Holy Mother of God took from Her head and covered everyone, asking for help, has in itself power and protection from all disasters. This festival is celebrated every year on the 14th of October. So this image is a great gift to those, whom you wish to be protected.

The history of the celebration goes back to the year 910. At that period the powerful Constantinopole was occupied by cruel enemies. All city was flooded by blood and its inhabitants had no hope to stay alive. At night they were praying at Blachernae church, where several relics of Mother of God were kept. On Sunday, October 1 at four in the morning, St. Andrew the Blessed Fool-for-Christ, who was a Slav by birth, saw the dome of the church open and the Virgin Mary enter, moving in the air above him, glowing and surrounded by angels and saints. She knelt and prayed with tears for all faithful Christians in the world. The Virgin Mary asked Her Son, Jesus Christ, to accept the prayers of all the people entreating Him and looking for Her protection. Once Her prayer was completed, She walked to the altar and continued to pray. Afterward, She spread Her veil over all the people in the church as protection. The army of the enemies retreated from the city and its inhabitants were saved.
