Symbolism and application of the ...item.

St. Nicholas is one of the most venerated saints not only by Orthodox believers but all over the world. He is the prototype of the cheerful and kind-hearted hero – Santa Claus. He lived in the second half of the 3rd century and was a bishop of the Lycian city of Mira, where he was famous for many miracles and works of mercy. Already during his lifetime, the people began to pray to him as to the saint, asking for help in hopeless situations. Sailors prayed to pacify the storm and save the drowning, those, who were innocently convicted – to stand up before the rulers, the sick prayed for healing,  the needy ones -for any help. During his life, he performed countless miracles and does not stop performing them until today. The legend says that he left presents for the poor ones (and that was the beginning of Santa Claus, who brings presents every year.) But, despite all his kindness, great gentleness of spirit, and purity of heart, Saint Nicholas was a zealous and ardent warrior of the Church of Christ. He even destroyed the pagan temples in the city. Saint Nicholas is the patron of children, sailors, travelers, fishermen, merchants, broadcasters, the falsely accused, repentant thieves, brewers, pharmacists, archers, and pawnbrokers. He also promised to help those who remember his parents, Theophanes and Nonna. Saint Nicholas is also commemorated on May 9 (The transfer of his relics) and on July 29 (his nativity). You can understand, how wide is the field of patronage of Saint Nicholas and how strong he is. This icon pendant can be a nice gift to your child or any representative of the professions, mentioned above.
