This pectoral cross is made as a precious reliquary framing the main sacred object – a golden eight-pointed cross placed in the middle of the item. The cross looks like it was framed twice. The first symbolic reliquary is filled with letters, while the second, which is in the outer frame, is decorated with a floral pattern. The corner ornament connects the front side with the backside.
The letters placed around the cross are the titles of the holy name of Christ. "НИКА" means "I overcame", and the acronym "МЛРБ" stands for "The place of execution where the Lord was crucified". The eight-pointed cross on a semicircular base is an image not only of the cross on which the Savior was crucified but also of His Golgotha.
The word "Golgotha" in Aramaic means "the skull". Christian theology linked Golgotha to the skull of Adam which was buried there. The Golgotha cross is the main symbol of Christianity.
