Symbolism and application of ...the item
On the front side of this pectoral cross, you can see the crucifixion of our Lord. The cross is erected on the small stone platform, which symbolizes the Mount of Golgotha. According to the legend, the first man, Adam, was buried here. Above Christ's head, there are letters: "ИНЦИ". They mean: " Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews" ( In Latin it is "INRI). In this way, the Jews wanted to mock Jesus, calling Him a king. The image of our Lord on the cross is always very meaningful. Having suffered torment on the Cross, the Lord atoned for the sins of people. In the center of the backside, you can see the image of a Guardian angel. The angel stands at his full height, holding a sword in his hand. It resembles the image of Archangel Michael. This image can be found on Russian pectoral crosses since the 16th century.
