This icon, called „SEVEN SORROWS“ ( or „Seven shots“) was created according to the words of Saint Simeon. As the Evangelist Luke narrates, righteous Simeon was predicted by the Holy Spirit that he would not die until he saw the Messiah, the Savior of mankind. The holy elder lived 360 years in anticipation of the fulfillment of the prophecy. And on the fortieth day after Christmas, the Blessed Virgin, together with the righteous Joseph the Betrothed, brought the Infant Jesus Christ to the Jerusalem temple and Saint Simeon saw the Holy Baby. He took the Baby into his arms and turning to the Virgin Mary he said: „This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel and to be a sign that will be spoken against so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your soul too.” (Lk 2, 34-35). The Most Holy Theotokos in Her miraculous icon "Seven-sorrows" is revered as a pacifier of hostile feelings, and a defender of malicious intent. Mothers pray to this icon to protect their children from evil people, and from the misfortunes of evil spirits. They turn to her with a prayer to stop internecine strife, pacify the hearts of enemies, and also to defeat evil thoughts and unkind feelings in their hearts. All those who resort to this icon with prayer feel that softening the heart relieves not only mental but also bodily suffering. If you pray in front of the image for your enemies, then hostile feelings give way to mercy, and the hatred that corrodes the soul subsides.
