This round relief scapular with a movable hoop at the top contains a waist-length mage of St. Spyridon, Bishop of Trimythous. The saint is depicted in a three-quarter turn and is wearing a woven willow wicker hat and a bishop’s omophorion over his shoulders. The reverse depicts an equilateral cross consisting of five circles with four Greek letters, which form the cryptogram ΦΧΦΠ, an acronym for the Greek phrase Φως Χριστού Φαίνει Πάσι (the light of Christ enlightens all). The saint was a simple shepherd known for his piety and modesty. Though uneducated, he had a sound mind and was granted wisdom and discernment by the Lord. After he entered a monastery and was later elected Bishop of Trimythous, he continued to work as a shepherd and showed great care for both his sentient and non-sentient flock. The cross is surrounded by the words of the prayer to St. Spyridon in Church Slavonic.
