This round relief scapular with a movable hoop at the top contains a waist-length image off the Holy Martyr St. Anastasia of Sirmium, who is holding a cross in her right hand and a vessel with medicinal oil on the left. When Anastasia’s husband died, she started to travel across the country, visiting prisons and using her property to help incarcerated Christians. The Lord gave Anastasia the gift of healing, which she used to ease or resolve the suffering of Christian prisoners, and, as a result, she is referred to as Pharmacolytria (Healer of Illnesses, Deliverer from Potions) in Greek and Uzoryeshitelnitsa (Reliever of Prisoners’ suffering) in Russian. The reverse depicts a blossoming eight-pointed cross inside a circle, framed in the words of the prayer to St. Anastasia in Church Slavonic.
