This arch-shaped relief scapular comes in an openwork frame formed by a woven filigree ornament. The icon may have a movable hoop in the shape of a stylized lily flower or be supplemented with a chain that echoes the ornament of the rim and can be fixed to the ring at the top.
Our Lady of Yaroslavl is a version of the icon known in Greek as Eleusa, which means “tender” or “merciful” and could be translated as Our Lady of the Tenderness. This icon is distinguished by the position of the Blessed Virgin’s hands as she holds the fragile Infant Jesus closer to herself, which resembles Our Lady of the Sorrows in some compositions of the Crucifixion. On the reverse of the scapular one can find the prayer to Our Lady of Yaroslavl.
